The racing season is in full gear now. We have had a lot of rain this year making for an interesting schedule. Many of our races have actually been rained out, which is frustrating. We have only gotten to run the midget once so far this year due to all the rain. We plan on taking the track on June 22nd in Indianapolis providing the weather holds. They are calling for 70% chance of rain!!
The Outlaw Late Model has been a challenging series to run. I have learned a lot, the driving style from a midget to a stock car is quite different. The drivers in this series are seasoned drivers that have been doing this for a long time. Coming in on a new series being so young has had some challenges. Bob Blount has been a great coach, crew chief and supplied a great car every week. We had a fast car on the Jim Blount Memorial race started on the outside in the 6th hole, but the track was weeping water and my tires got caught up in it and spun and hit the wall. We were done. Definitely not the finish we were hoping for. We came back to run at Plymouth on the 17th of June, had a fast car that was hooked up. I started in the 5th slot was able to move to the outside and work my way on the outside for about 14 laps before I took the lead. It was some intense racing against the best of the best. Got my first OUTLAW Late Model win after 4 attempts in the car. Definitely a boost of confidence that I needed to go on. Looking forward to the weeks ahead and bringing home some great finishes and possibly some more checkered flags! Stay tuned or come out and join us at the track.
2011 Race Season will bring new and exciting events. Grant will be running the famous #16 Outlaw Super Late Model with Bob Blount as crew chief and car owner. It will be a new challenge as a rookie running in the late model series. Grant is looking forward to learning from the best in the business and hoping to get a few checkered flags under his belt in his rookie season. He will be running and contending for a championship at Plymouth Motor Speedway. It will be alot of fun to race at our home track this year. We will be running at some other tracks too, stay tuned and we will try to keep everyone posted of where we will be at.
The fall of 2010 and the beginning of 2011 has been a blast! Grant has been able to travel the country with Dodge Motorsports. He has had the privilege of traveling to Colorado, Las Vegas, California, Kansas City, Dallas, and Houston. He has also had the opportunity to do some State Police training out in California. Grant gets to put Dodge Chargers and Challengers through their paces. I'm not sure thats really a job, but a pretty great one for a 17 year old kid. Many thanks go out to the Richard Petty team that is giving Grant the chance of a lifetime. In February, he also had the opportunity to drive at the Walt Disney World Speedway for four days. It was pretty amazing to go and work for the most famous mouse in the world. The guys down there were great and Grant learned alot!
Our first annual golf outing will be May 6th at Elbel Golf Course in South Bend, Indiana. We are expecting 140 golfers with the winner receiving Richard Petty Driving Experience ride-along certificates! Many thanks go out to Katie Hocker (sister) for all of her hard work in putting this event together.
